Hey mates! Whilst we can’t guarantee an Action t-shirt, this is your chance to have your say on Action, and the Sevenpenny Nightmare site. This modern internet stuff is all about interactivity, we’re told, and Old Wooden Leg is keen to get with the times.
So, if you want to talk about your memories of the comic, chat about your favourite characters, ask us a question or comment on the site and all its features, here’s your chance.
Simply add your comments using the form below, and we’ll try to help out as best as we can.
Back in the day we had a £1 postal order, a 1:72 scale Thunder Chief Jet Fighter, a skimmer disc, a 1:72 scale Tiger Tank and the Dredger shirt you can see in the picture, but all that was over thirty years ago, and we seem to have run out, so we’ll provide you with some answers to your questions, any new features you request, and maybe a few surprises along the way.
We look forward to hearing from you, and who knows, maybe one day we’ll have some t-shirts done so you could actually win something for your trouble!
See Ya!
Steve
Hi Steve,
Brilliant site on my fave and most influential comic. I’m 44 now so was spot on age-wise for the impact, it’s stayed with me ever since, and it was the major influence (along with Doctor Who) that got me into writing. I’ve been a pro-writer of novels and for TV for about ten years now – I’m toying with the idea of turning the Action story into a film or TV drama at some point in the future, so you never know I might be back to talk to you and get some background.
I have the excellent Titan book, which almost brought tears to my eyes when it came back, such was a joy of seeing some of those strips again; wonderfully done, I’m sure you’ll agree. I also have a complete run of pre- and post ban Actions, all the annuals, and (I’m sure) all summer specials acquired at the time, so they’re in varying states of decay, but I get them out occasionally to have a look.
Dear Steve,
Thanks for your site – I don’t know what got me thinking about Action again – but your site is one hell of a trip down Memory Lane! Cheers,
Pete
Thanks very much for your comments, it’s a big nostalgia trip for me too. Gotta love the old comic, it was brilliant!
Thanks for bringing back some great memories of my childhood and reading Battle .. while im here can you rememeber a character named Atilla, think he was a german tank commander, i remember having a picture i drew of him printed in Battle when i was 8 or 9, think it was 1978 or early 79, have been looking for this comic for the past 20 years.
Think you might have the wrong site, and are looking for Captain Hurricane over at Best of Battle. We don’t know of a German tank commander called Atilla ever appearing in either Action or Battle, perhaps you used to read DC Thomson’s Warlord, they could’ve been up to anything without us batting an eyelid.
Hi Steve,
I just noticed looking at the Hells Highway strip that one of the story lines is a dead crib of the 1973 horror film The Crazies (re-worked and re-released in 2010). Just thought i’d mention it as i’ve not seen it mentioned before.
Keep up the good work,
Dave
It does indeed bear an uncanny resemblance to George A. Romero’s 1973 b-movie classic, Dave. Never let it be said that Action was above paying homage to the work of others, especially if we could earn a few quid by spinning a story out of it for a few weeks.
Hi,
Do you have a newsletter to sign up to?
Are there any updates more recent than this time last year?
hi there – i was a about ten when i started reading action – it was brilliant , me and my mates especially loved death game 1999 – we drew our own strips featuring our own teams , mine was the isle of white ice pirates , i remember using half a ream of my dads A4 drawing the pirates against the dartmouth destroyers – my dad was disgusted with it and went apeshit and put it all in the fire – bloody censors. also my mates and i tried to play the game for real on bikes and roller skates using baseball bats using bins for pins (seriously).
not to sure what made me go on line and type in death game 1999 but im glad i did – tonight im gonna light up and see what really happened in the last game of the karson city killers !!!
Unfortunately, we lost all access to the site some time ago, hence the lack of updates. Luckily, thanks to the magic of a WordPress emergency log-in we found, we’re back from today, so expect more soon. No newsletter at the moment, nor any plans for one as we’re busy working on The Best of Action for Titan Books, but when time allows, we may put one together, and add that Facebook page people have been suggesting.
Steve
Hey, Action Hombre,
Is it true that you did turn down one stunt on the grounds of it being just a bit too hairy? I’ve heard a rumour the plan was to drop you into the North Sea and have you rescued by a lifeboat or something. What’s the story, AM?
Hi there Steve, and thanks for taking the time to write in.
Here at the Nightmare we’re not really sure what was happening back then, there are so many versions of stories of the things we got up to kicking around that sometimes we forget what happened and what didn’t. It sounds like an interesting tale though, and maybe something you know far more about than we do, so if ever you fancy spilling the beans, it sounds like the sort of crazy stuff even we wouldn’t get up to.
Glad you took the decision not to drown in icy waters, and enjoy the sabbatical!
Steve
Hi Steve, I wonder if you can help me? I won a Tiger Tank when you deceided to publish a cartoon picture of 2 sharks (one of course was Hook Jaw!) and a submarine, with a punch line “Oh no, not another can of Human Beings”. Question is which date & copy of Action was it in so I might be able to hunt it down?
Shame such a great comic was finished.
Thanks again for influencing the way I turned out!
Your mate
Dave.
