++ The History of Action ++

This section details Action's all too brief history, from the original idea and inception to its decline, fall and inevitable death. Much of my original research was taken from Action - The Story of a Violent Comic by Martin Barker, who kindly gave me permission to quote him liberally. From there, I was furnished with material from his earlier book Comics: Ideology, Power and the Critics and some of his research materials. After that I was on my own, but up to speed, and used a variety of sources to put this area together. There's more to come, as the story of Action doesn't end with the comic itself. Action had an impact on the way IPC produced comics for years after, which will be detailed in the 'Legacy' section in the near future.
