| Kids Rule O.K. has been presented in The Whole Story, but warrants an uncut appearance here. There's a comparison of the censored and uncensored versions in the Missing in Action section. The new editorial team began chopping up Kids before the withdrawal of Action, hoping to curb the worst of its excesses whilst it was still part of the weekly. In its final couple of weeks, the strip ran in heavily censored form, losing half a page of violence per issue. The remaining panels were resized for publication. This means that despite not surviving the axe, there are two versions of many of the pages. However, the edits proved to be a pointless exercise when Kids was dropped, and the revised artwork never saw print. Unfortunately, not all of the uncut artwork survives, and some of the pages here are the result of editorial interference from Safe-Hands Sid Bicknell. The unfortunate conclusion was supposed to carry on directly after the 16th October issue, wrapping up the story in a tidy fashion. Luckily it was so bad, relying on everyone having forgotten what had happened six weeks before, that it was never published. |
