| As a strip that came very close to joining Kids Rule O.K. and Probationer in the IPC out tray, it's no surprise that not a lot remains of the uncut Lefty pages. There's two complete episodes from the 23rd and 30th October, and two odd pages from a little further down the line. In between, Lefty and Angie sneak off after the Sholton match to find Nick and Spicer, and settle the score with the Rippers for the tar and feather attack. Nick and Spicer, still using the motorbikes they stole to get to the junk shop, soon get into a dust-up with Lefty. The police arrive, and to avoid further trouble and a premature end to his football career, young Lampton flees the scene on one of the stolen bikes, with Angie riding pillion. Lefty then has to face new pressures on the pitch whilst worrying whether the Rippers will open their mouths to the police. Unfortunately, this kind of off-field antics were never to be seen again in Lefty, which became far more like Tom Tully's Roy of the Rovers, as the post-ban episodes show. |
